The Hoff at Supanova

David ‘The Hoff’ Hasselhoff has joined Supanova’s celebration of geekery, gaming and gadgetry on the Gold Coast.

The Knight Rider actor posed for photographs and signed autographs for Supanova fans on Sunday, as he rode in a replica KITT car from the classic television series in a parade down Broadbeach Mall.

The Hoff was a TV institution in the ’80s as Michael Knight, before hitting mega-stardom in the early ’90s as Mitch Buchannon on Baywatch.

For those who do not believe The Hoff has enough geek cred for Supanova, it’s worth noting a 1998 telemovie called Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

That’s right, The Hoff was Nick Fury before Samuel L. Jackson.

Supanova is a pop-culture expo where patrons revel in the opportunity to dress as their childhood heroes. Crowds can be made up of Stormtroopers, Pokemons and Wizards of Middle-earth.

However, dressed in a conservative black buttoned shirt and jeans on Sunday, The Hoff looked more like a high school teacher than a modern day knight fighting crime with the help of an artificially intelligent and nearly indestructible car.

The expo, now in its 11th year, is held in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Adelaide.

More than 120,000 patrons attend Supanova annually to dress up, trade rare collectables and pay upwards of $100 for a photo with their favourite celebrity from yesteryear.

David Hasselhoff Rocks Out For Rock for Doc

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

David was in Australia for the Rock for Doc concert. Check out photos here.

Doc Neeson, the veteran frontman of one of the central bands of the classic pub rock era, the Angels, is suffering from a brain tumour. That is why the room was crammed with more than 2000 people and the stage packed with many of those who defined pub rock.

Rock for Doc at the Enmore Theatre on Monday night brought together members of Midnight Oil (yes, including one federal minister happy not to be talking about school funding for a few hours), Rose Tattoo, Noiseworks, Cold Chisel, Dragon, Mi-Sex and plenty of others for the kind of fund-raising concert money really couldn’t buy.

Organiser Cat Swinton said money raised would be used to keep Neeson fed and housed and to pay his medical bills while he is off the road and receiving treatment. When he goes back on the road – the talk is always when, not if – remaining money will be put into a trust for people with a similar condition.

”I have had so much support,” Neeson said. ”I’ve shed a tear or two in gratitude.”

He said he wanted the night to not just be about him but a celebration of Australian music.

”This is what was going on night after night in Sydney [35 years ago] and this is what Australia still has to offer,” he said.

David Hasselhoff to be at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

David Hasselhoff will be at the Gold Coast Supanova Pop Culture Expo in Australia this month. The fan convention at the Gold Coast will be April 19-21 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Center. David is keen to hang out with his fans.

“If you haven’t been to one of these fan conventions, then get ready,” he said.

“I doubt you’ve been to anything else quite like … they’re a bit like a one very big Halloween party. People come from everywhere to meet their favourite stars and most of them dress up.” Hasselhoff would be surprised if he didn’t see fans channelling characters from his TV hits The Young and the Restless, Knight Rider and Baywatch.

“I sing at concerts and go to parties all the time where almost everyone in the room is dressed-up to look like me. I suppose you sort of get used to it,” he said. He remembered one fan who presented her butt cheek to show him a tattooed picture of himself and asked him to autograph it.

With a stellar cast of guests, heaps of interactive comps and events, masses of retailers and Artist Alley vendors, legends of the industry such as Weta from New Zealand and so much more, from the worlds of film, TV, anime, gaming, comic-books, authors and more! It’s not to be missed!

David Hasselhoff at Berlin Wall Protests

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

 Source: Huffington Post

BERLIN — David Hasselhoff put his name behind a campaign to preserve one of the few remaining sections of the Berlin Wall, calling it a “sacred” monument to cheers Sunday from Germans who fondly remember his schmaltzy hit “Looking for Freedom” as one of the soundtracks to their peaceful 1989 revolution.

The actor, best known for starring in “Knight Rider” and “Baywatch,” joined ordinary Berliners in protesting a real estate developer’s plans to move part of the wall to make way for an access path for a luxury housing development.

“It’s like tearing down an Indian burial ground. It’s a no-brainer,” said Hasselhoff, before recounting his own memories of visiting East Germany – grim cities, grim food – shortly before unification.

Plans to move part of the East Side Gallery – a 1.3 kilometer (3/4 mile) stretch of wall painted by artists after the fall of communism and popular with tourists – sparked angry protests earlier this month. Activists have denounced it as part of a wider trend of steamrolling Berlin’s tumultuous history to make way for gleaming but soulless developments in the heart of the city.

At least 136 people died between 1961 and 1989 trying to cross the wall that divided the communist-run East Berlin from West Berlin. Most of the wall has since been destroyed, with only two large sections remaining as memorials.

“It’s a stupid idea to rip parts of the wall out for luxury apartments,” said Roland Junge, one of thousands of locals who accompanied Hasselhoff on an impromptu walk along the wall Sunday.

“This last piece of the wall is really sacred,” Hasselhoff told reporters. “It’s about people and it’s about hearts that were broken, hearts that were torn apart and lives that were lost. That’s what we’re talking about today, not a piece of real estate.”

Asked if he thought his song – belted out by a million people on both sides of the wall during a New Year’s Eve concert in 1989 – had played any role in bringing down the most visible section of the Iron Curtain, Hasselhoff said: “Whether it had anything to do with anything, it’s a song about freedom and it stuck in their head because it had a good hook.”

Berliners can prepare for a reprise if talks involving the developers, authorities and campaigners fail to reach a compromise next week.

“If it goes to the next step, we’ll come back with a huge concert and really rock Berlin,” said ‘The Hoff.’
