Actor David Hasselhoff has been reunited with two cancer survivors he first met when they were diagnosed with the disease as children 20 years ago.

The Baywatch star first encountered the two men when they were just kids newly diagnosed with cancer in Vienna, Austria in the early 1990s, as part of his charity work.

He visited them again on Monday (24Jan11) – and was pleased to see how well they’ve recovered from their early-life health scares.

In a video posted on his website, Hasselhoff says, “Here we are at the St. Anna’s Children Hospital in Vienna where I met these children here 20 years ago. We established a foundation called the David Hasselhoff Benefit Foundation for Children with Cancer.

“We started this foundation and these two children survived cancer and they lived. It’s an amazing thing to come back and see this. Miracles happen. It’s incredible.”

Berlin, London, Mt Maunganui. A week is a long time and the world a small place when you’re David Hasselhoff.

The ageing cult icon has racked up the air miles in the past few days; he sang in the New Year to a freezing Berlin crowd, before jetting to Australia and then on to Mt Maunganui for a whirlwind promotional tour.

And in less a few days time, “The Hoff” will be back in London’s East End in a pantomime production of Peter Pan and a stint as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.

But while he might be one of the hardest working men in showbiz at the moment, Hasselhoff is still having fun.

David Hasselhoff in New Zealand

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011
From GoldCoast.com.au and NZHerald.co.nz

DAVID Hasselhoff might look good surrounded by bikini babes but he is not about to take on the Gold Coast’s chief lifeguard Warren Young.

Yesterday he said the evergreen Mr Young, dubbed the Silver Fox, would ‘kill him’ if it came down to a one-on-one match in the surf and sand.

Here to promote an ice-cream and with eight local Splice girls in tow, the Bulletin asked The Hoff, 58, if he would challenge Mr Young, 60.

”He would kill me. We’re about the same age but he has a couple of years on me,” he said.

”It’s amazing that these lifeguards stay in magnificent shape their whole life  they’re the real deal.

”I’ve made a few rescues in my time but you know I’m an actor and you look at that guy (Mr Young) and, when he hugged me, it was that tight.

”These guys still walk the walk. I don’t know if I could keep up with him but I keep up with me.”

Mr Young, who has been a lifeguard for 37 years, said although he was not surrounded by a bevy ov beauties in real life, he liked how Baywatch brought lifeguarding into the public.

David Visits Gold Coast

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011
From Sydney Morning Herald

David arrived at the Gold Coast this morning to hand out some more ice treats from Splice. He also asked beach goers to donate to the Queensland flood victims. Check out more photos here.

Surrounded by models wearing Baywatch-style red swimsuits and carrying cooler bags full of ice cream, “The Hoff” greeted fans and media all smiles.

After throwing ice creams into the air he stopped to shake hands with a real-life hero, Gold Coast chief lifeguard Warren Young.

“You’re 60?” asked Hasselhoff. “I’m 58, yeah we still got it.”

The American actor then made his way up the dunes as crowd controllers worked to stop dozens of young girls getting too close.

“Sign me, sign me!” one teenager screamed, pushing her way towards Hasselhoff.

Another youngster questioned: “Who is it? Can I get some free stuff?”

Speaking to TV cameras, the star urged people to donate to Queensland’s flood victims, saying the state was home to his favourite place to relax, the Great Barrier Reef.

“I got a lot of friends down here, this is fantastic,” he said.

Gold Coast mum Melissa Mueller made the special trip to the beach today when she heard Hasselhoff would be making an appearance.

“I remember him from Knight Rider,” she said.

Maddy May, 18, and friend Bre Bailey, 19, were already at the beach when they heard Hasselhoff was coming.

Although Baywatch was “a bit before our time”, they recognised the star.

“It definitely made my day,” said Bailey. “It’s the closest I’ve been to a celebrity.”
