Some of the tour dates for David Hasselhoff’s February-March tour in the UK have been cancelled with venue sites citing “touring logistic problems.” London is the only concert that will happen, according to David Hasselhoff’s Twitter:

Huffington Post UK: David Hasselhoff Interview

Friday, January 13th, 2012

David Hasselhoff with his new friend, world magic champion Latimer

“I didn’t know you could become legendary by getting the crabs.”

Before you think the worst, David Hasselhoff is reflecting on the latest honour to be received by this most multi-faceted of our cultural heroes – having a newly-discovered crab named after him by scientists, by virtue of the crustacean’s unlikely broad and fluffy chest. And The Hoff is loving it:

“I have a Guinness Book of World Records entry as the most watched person on television, now I have a new entry as the only man who has a crab named after him. My daughter sent me a photo of the Hoff Crab – I think it’s very funny, very cool and endearing.”

This is only the latest episode in the unique career of David Hasselhoff, with his enduring global success and celebrity. He’s a massive pop star in his ancestral Germany, and has been taken truly to British hearts, too. As well as dating a Welsh lady – “I’ve been spending a lot of time in Wales, brilliant” – he’s just finished a run in panto at Bristol Hippodrome (Hoff the Hook in Peter Pan, what else?). And he’s already spent a season as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, a stint on which he now casts a curious perspective:

“When I was doing Britain’s Got Talent, I really enjoyed it, but I found it very difficult to be in the audience. I like to be on stage, I feel safer on stage because I’m in control.”

With each act performing four tricks, two of which are live, anything could happen. The stakes are high, as once all three acts have performed viewers get to vote for their favourite, with the losing team having to face a terrifying live forfeit.

Highlights include a death-defying escape, some ninja magic and an awe-inspiring levitation, but who will have to face the forfeit once the votes have been counted?

Whizz is owned by David and Gean Pugh from Clapton-in-Gordano, founders of the charity Newfound Friends which sees Newfoundland dogs take part in fundraising days by demonstrating their life-saving skills in water.

The charity has launched an appeal to help raise money for Bristol Children’s Hospital, which has treated a young member of Newfound Friends, Tol Taylor, for leukaemia.

To help raise money, Newfound Friends will be at Portishead Marina on July 14 when people can sign up to be rescued from the water by one of the dogs.

David Hasselhoff, second left meets Bristol Badgers from left Scott Sibereis, Matt Bray and Dan Looney

MEMBERS of the Bristol Badgers got the chance to talk baseball with international superstar David Hasselhoff over the weekend.

Baseball fan ‘The Hoff’, who has recently completed a month-long stint appearing as Captain Hook in the pantomime Peter Pan, met with a number of players backstage at the Bristol Hippodrome.

Badgers co-manager Dan Looney said: “It was great to talk baseball with David.

“He likes lots of sports, but I actually think he just loves to hear that people are participating in something active.

“We’re pleased to welcome The Hoff as an Honourary Badger!”

Hasselhoff, who was born in Baltimore, added: “Baseball is a great team sport.

“It’s played all around the world, although most people probably don’t realise it was invented in England.

“It doesn’t matter what size or how fast or strong you are, as long as you have hand-eye co-ordination you can play.”

The Badgers, who play games through the summer at their Failand base, won the British AAA South Division last summer for the first time in their short history.

They are gearing up to defend their title again in the forthcoming campaign, for which indoor pre-season training begins next month.

The Mad World of David Hasselhoff

Sunday, January 8th, 2012
'Self-motivation. Self-prayer. God's cured me many times in life,' said David Hasselhoff

'Self-motivation. Self-prayer. God's cured me many times in life,' said David Hasselhoff

By SIMON LEWIS

He says his new British tour will be a ‘hilarious and emotional ride through his life via song and dance’. If it’s half as entertaining as this interview, we’ll take a season ticket…

There’s a 2007 book entitled Did David Hasselhoff End The Cold War? I’ve just shown it to the man in question, in a chilly canteen by a north London canal. He puts down his plastic coffee cup and eyes it suspiciously.

‘Is it supposed to be a joke?’

Actually, no. The book makes the point that Hasselhoff’s 1989 song Looking For Freedom (No 1 in the West German charts for eight weeks) was heard by East Germans on the radio and became a symbol for what they didn’t have. Hasselhoff brightens.

‘Well, everybody made a big joke of it,’ he beams.

‘A silly magazine called the National Enquirer said I was upset there was no picture of me at Checkpoint Charlie. Completely fabricated. But as it turned out, I went to East Germany this year and they were saying, “Thank you for Mauerfall” – the fall of the Wall.

‘I thought they were kidding. But they said, “Do you realise that the first English words out of our mouths were ‘I’ve been looking for freedom’?

‘We were behind the Wall and we could not speak English, but we heard this song about freedom.” It was a psychological boost for everybody. It sold 11 million copies. One man can make a difference – that was the Knight Rider motto. And I did! I felt like a spy!’

It may sound odd for a 59-year-old man in a leather jacket, white vest and reading glasses drinking from a plastic cup to be holding forth about ending the Cold War. But you’d expect nothing less from David Hasselhoff: actor, singer, raconteur, talent-show judge, pantomime villain (Captain Hook at the Bristol Hippodrome) and all-round force of nature. We’re here because he’s touring a one-man show called An Evening With David Hasselhoff. Shall we crack on?

‘Crack on, baby! Crack on.’

What’s in the show?
