David Hasselhoff to Tackle Triathlon

Friday, August 31st, 2012

DAVID HASSELHOFF has signed up to compete in a gruelling triathlon in London.

The Baywatch star joins Harry Potter actor Oliver Phelps and British pop star Michelle Heaton on business magnate Sir Richard Branson’s celebrity team at the upcoming race.

In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, “I’ve just joined Richard Branson’s team for the Virgin Active UK London Triathlon this Sept, let the training begin!”

Hasselhoff’s teammates have been training for months, but the 60-year-old hunk has just three weeks to prepare for the running, swimming and cycling endurance challenge.

The Virgin Active London Triathlon will take place on 22-23 September (12) in the U.K. capital.

David Sixty, Sexy and in SA

David Hasselhoff and 'Baywatch' girls at the Avastar nightclub, where he will perform tomorrow when it hosts the Ultimate Baywatch Beach Party Picture: DANIEL BORN

For a 60-year-old, David Hasselhoff has quite a bit going for him – and he can still make women swoon, as was witnessed outside the Avastar nightclub in Rivonia, northern Johannesburg, where he will perform tomorrow night at the Ultimate Baywatch Beach Party.

The Hoff couldn’t help but shout “siyabonga” and “sawubona” at everybody in sight. He also believes Michael Knight, the 1980s TV star of Knight Rider, which made him famous, is bigger than James Bond will ever be.

Heck, one of his most memorable moments in South Africa was when he found Knight Rider bed sheets on sale while visiting this country with his father, Joe, 87.

Hasselhoff is still a major drawcard.

Just 20 minutes after The Times joined the club owners on a limousine ride to transport the Hoff from his Sandton hotel to the nightclub yesterday, his personal assistant, Nick Corjan, said he had just been booked to perform at the Sydney Opera House in January.

“Whenever I start feeling sorry for myself, thinking that perhaps I would have loved to be James Bond, I think: ‘Who cares?’, more people know about Michael Knight than about Bond,” said Hasselhoff

He said Baywatch’s Mitch Buchannon was “basically Knight Rider in a bathing suit”.

“Instead of a talking car, we had babes,” he said.

Hasselhoff was affable with the hotel staff and the four scantily dressed women who greeted him.

The media were asked not to quiz him about his past relationship with local star Patricia Lewis, or about his ex-wife, Pamela Bach, or alcohol.

The Hoff will be at the children in the cancer wards at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Chris Hani-Baragwanath Hospital today.

The Hoff is happy to do silly poses or run in slow motion with a bevy of babes on his arm .

“When I was in the UK recently I took pictures with girls in bathing suits and would run in slow motion, and all the papers – even though my shows are a big success there – had headlines saying: ‘Will you stop living in the past?’, and I would say: ‘Baby, you just fell right into it; you printed the picture’.”

The Hoff attends sell-out Tattoo

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

Actor David Hasselhoff has taken time out from performing to enjoy a night at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

The Baywatch and Knight Rider star met musicians from The Royal Regiment of Scotland before the show on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle.

The actor, known as The Hoff, also surprised members of the audience when he went to meet them in one of the stands. He was attending the performance with his partner Hayley Roberts.

He is in the city for his Fringe show An Evening With David Hasselhoff Live, on at the Pleasance Courtyard.

Tickets have sold out for the Tattoo, now in its 63rd year.

This year’s event features around 1,000 pipers, drummers and other musicians and is celebrating 60 years of the Queen’s reign with a Diamond Jubilee theme.

Military bands from countries including Australia, Switzerland, Norway, Canada and the US are performing during a three-week run which ends on Saturday.

Organisers said all 215,100 available show tickets have been snapped up, generating £8.4 million at the box office.

Edinburgh Festival 2012: David Hasselhoff Interview

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

David Hasselhof at Venice Beach, California: 'Ninety nine per cent of people now call me The Hoff - and it's out of respect' Photo: JEFF JARVER/COLEMAN-RAYNER

David Hasselhoff, whose one-man show runs for a week at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, talks to Celia Walden of the Telegraph.

David Hasselhoff’s pet pig has made him late again. “I’m sorry,” exhales the TV star, sinking into a deckchair on the beachfront of a Santa Monica hotel. “He was stuck in the house scratching at the door asking to be let out. Then the water dragons needed feeding.”

Welcome to Hoff-world: an alternative universe where pot-bellied pigs govern schedules, conversations veer off on wild tangents and waitresses swoon like schoolgirls. It’s no surprise that the actor and singer turned talent show judge – who maintains his position in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most famous TV star on the planet – can’t stop smiling. “It’s fun,” he says when I ask whether it ever occurs to him that his life is ridiculous. “Isn’t it fun?” He turns the full, electrifying force of that smile onto his girlfriend, Hayley Roberts – a delicate-featured 31 year-old from Glynneath in Wales. It is, she concedes, fun.

Hayley must be doing something right. The 60 year-old, tanned and lean in blue jeans, an emerald green T-shirt and white jacket, is a different man from the one I first met four years ago, on the set of NBC’s America’s Got Talent. The manic, restless quality is still there behind the eyes, but a vicious optimism has replaced the torment. His talent-judging days may be over, but with a one-man show opening at the Leicester Square Theatre this month followed by a week-long run at the Edinburgh Festival, the Hoff is undergoing yet another resurgence.

“That’s what the show is about – my crazy journey. My whole life I’ve been like, woah!” he whoops. “Then, ‘Oh what happened?’ Woah! ‘Oh what happened?’”

My Edinburgh: David Hasselhoff, Actor

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

David writes to the Independent about the Edinburgh festival:

My last experience in Edinburgh was when I did the Scott Mills Show at midnight. It was really awesome. I got so much love from the Scottish people. They were saying “We love “Britain’s Got Talent” and “We love Knight Rider” and “We love Baywatch”. Just wonderful.

There are so many shows going on in Edinburgh. It reminds me of The Renaissance Fair that happens every year in Topanga Canyon. It was there that my girlfriend found a David Hasselhoff look-a-like walking down the street, advertising his show by saying “I’m the third best David Hasselhoff impersonator in town”. It was that that gave me the idea – hey, if he can do David Hasselhoff, why can’t I do David Hasselhoff?

My show starts at 6pm and I think, when people have the right level of ale in their system, it will be a really exciting show. We’re going to do everything from Scottish anthems like “(I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles” to “Rock’*'Roll” to “Jump in My Car” to Baywatch to Knight Rider.

I feel so much better being on stage performing than being on Britain’s Got Talent judging people. Some people are born to play football, some people are born to play guitar but my strength is to entertain people. I love people.

Anything goes here, from musicals to mandolins to people dancing in the streets to medieval shows, to heartwarming shows to crazy David Hasselhoff doing a tribute to his life on Broadway.

David Hasselhoff’s Must-See Events

I’ve missed Amnesty International’s “Stand Up for Freedom” already this year so I want to go to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo at the top of the hill – with all the fireworks, pipers, drummers, singers and dancers.

Behind the Scenes with Mr. Paparazzi of David Hasselhoff’s West End Show

Friday, August 17th, 2012

Mr. Paparazzi:

The Hoff, as the kids call him, is poised to debut his West End show tonight  yes, tonight) and prior to its release we had a little chitty-chat with him about what we could expect from it.

But, being the lovely person that he is, the Hoff – who’s imaginatively titled play is called David Hasselhoff Live and is all about his life – went one step better than that by performing a number from the actual show for us. Ain’t that nice?

So if you’ve got a minute or two this afternoon (let’s face it – you do) have a ganders at our interview with The Hoff (he lets us call him that now you know) and watch him sing his little heart out as well.
