David Hasselhoff and Hayley Roberts lift lid on romance

The romance between Baywatch star David Hasselhoff and his Welsh girlfriend has been a tabloid staple and is now the subject of a behind-the-scenes TV program.BBC takes us on a ride through David Hasselhoff and Hayley Roberts' relationship since 2011. They talk about how their relationship began and where it is now. David also hints at where he's going to live next.. Wales or L.A.? Below are a few excerpts from the article. Read the whole thing here on BBC News. The program deals with his fame and the line between David Hasselhoff the person and The Hoff, the celebrity. It is a classic culture clash. The tale of a woman from the valleys who helps bring some normal life to a celebrity. Hayley and the Hoff airs Monday at 9pm (21:00) on BBC One Wales.

The programme shows Hasselhoff spending Christmas Day with the Roberts clan, all in Christmas jumpers."It was a nice Christmas for me, " he recalls. "I was away from my family and it was a rough time, my father had passed away, so it was my first Christmas without my family and I was invited to come to her home.

In the programme, he says the former Debenhams shop assistant's "love of life" and helping him keep healthy after well-publicised alcohol issues has been "one of the best things to happen to me."She says: " I don't know what people think The Hoff is. I get confused, to me it's just David - a happy person and larger than life."

David Hasselhoff Talks Silly New Roles in 'Sharknado' and 'Killing Hasselhoff'

Fox News Magazine interviewed David Hasselhoff recently on his present and upcoming projects. We get some insight on the Killing Hasselhoff movie, Sharknado 3, and Hoff the Record.

David Hasselhoff just wants to entertain. That's all he's ever wanted, from his early work on daytime soaps through his new gig as a variety host."I’m an entertainer," he tells FOX News Magazine. "You can’t pigeonhole me into any one thing. I'm not saying I'm great at anything, but I’m good at what I do."Right now, what Hasselhoff is doingis preparing for his upcoming turns in "Sharknado 3" and "Killing Hasselhoff," and having some fun with a new Clorox campaign in the meantime."They came to me saying, 'We’d like you to interact with some fans, go into their homes, and have a blast,' Hasselhoff explains of his recent#HassleOffDay project, whereby fans could enter to win a personal home-cleaning session from Homejoy and The Hoff himself.“It’s just a way of advertising in a positive, entertaining way," he says. "Also, it's funny."Hasselhoff is actually all about the funny these days. Case in point: his aforementioned role as Ian Ziering's father in "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!""It doesn't make sense at all, but it's a lot of fun," he explains. "[Ian Ziering's character] comes to me to save the world, and I’m pissed off at the world because I was an astronaut and I never got to space … I was a guilty father, and I didn’t know he had a daughter, and we renew our love for each other by driving a shuttle into outer space.""It’s the world’s stupidest, craziest, nuttiest movie, and it’s going to be a big success," he adds.Hasselhoff is also hoping his next film project, "Killing Hasselhoff," is just as big. It's about a guy (Ken Jeong) who enters into a celebrity death pool with some friends, only to resort to trying to kill Hasselhoff to ensure a victory."It's one of the funniest, if not the funniest script I've ever read," Hoff says. "I bought it on the spot."Of course, a big part of the film depends on Hasselhoff being able to poke fun at his own persona, and luckily, The Hoff is always game. “When [the characters] get to David Hasselhoff’s house, it’s like Hugh Hefner's," he explains with a laugh. "I've got girls running around and I’m listening to my own music.”

Even when he's not acting, Hasselhoff says he doesn't take himself too seriously. His new variety show in Scandanavia, for example, sees The Hoff interacting with all sorts of the area's big-name celebs — and he sometimes doesn't even know who they are before the interview."I find out on the spot," Hasselhoff admits. "They tell their story of how they got famous, and I tell my story, and we figure out a few songs together. Then I usually ask them where the sun is, because it's always night over there!" he jokes. "We just tried it out and we had a smash hit on our hands. We’re shooting now in Norway and Denmark; I'm trying to figure out how to bring it to America."And figure it out he will: Hasselhoff oversees much of the production, and that's just how he likes it."I really like producing, he says. "If I just go on and I’m told what to do, I clam up. But if I can do the whole thing, I’m using all my senses. That stuff really turns me on … and the live stuff is really what's most exciting. It can so easily go wrong, and it puts you in a place where — like jumping out of an airplane — you just gotta land."That's a philosophy he incorporates into his day-to-day life, as well."Last year, I did the Gumball [3000] Rally," he says, referring to an annual 3000-mile race through (mostly) Europe. "We tricked out a car like KITT, and it goes from 0 to 60 in something like 2 seconds. So we drive, and it's really fun to see the people in Latvia, or Lithuania, out in the middle of nowhere, waving when they see us. But if I got stopped [by police], I'd just jump out and say 'Hey!' and I'd never get a ticket. If I get them going, and laughing, I can talk my way out of it."Of course, that's probably easier when you're an entertainer like David Hasselhoff. He's really is pretty good at what he does.

David Hasselhoff: I Didn't Invent The Hoff

David Hasselhoff spoke to Yahoo! about his latest gig, not taking yourself too seriously, and, really, whatever else he wanted to talk about.

I was hoping you could explain this partnership with Clorox a little bit to me. The tone of this thing is a lot of fun. You know, my name is Hasselhoff, so I took the "hassel" out of the "hoff," and I [became] The Hoff. Now I'm taking the hassle out of cleaning and it’s a way to kind of interact with my fans and get in people’s faces in a fun way. There's has a new platform called Homejoy where you can actually order a maid. Actually, you can order topless maids out here in Hollywood, but they won’t let me do that. They sent me their ideas for the commercials and they’re kind of stupidly funny and overly crazy like my character The Hoff is. They don’t make any sense but they’re funny.

A lot of celebrities are doing the self-deprecating thing, but I feel like you were one of the first people who was willing to joke about yourself. When stuff comes out about you that sometimes can be devastating to your career, you either take it seriously or you slough it off and laugh at it and move forward. And I laughed at it because, 'Oh my God, they’re making this into such a big deal. Well, I’m going to make it into a big deal,' and so then it just spirals out of control. It’s like The Hoff, I didn’t invent The Hoff, The Hoff was invented by some secretaries in Australia and then they made all these jokes about, you know, Hasselhoff and "Hoffalicious" and "Hoff-crazy." And so I went down to Australia and they thought I would be offended and I wore a T-shirt that said "Don’t Hassle The Hoff." Bam! This brand has just taken off.Now are you really going to be cleaning people's homes? Yeah, I think that’s hysterical. I’ve done this before where I just knock on people's doors and they open the door and I go, "Hi! It's The Hoff! I’m here to help you clean. You want some help?" It's just really fun. I’ve been doing that basically all my life. I actually started when I was literally jogging in the Bahamas. A lady came out to get her mail and she said, "Oh, it's Knight Rider!" I said, "How are you? Got anything to drink in there? It's so hot here in the Bahamas." "Come on in, Knight Rider. Come on in!" Next thing I know, I’m in their house, her whole family comes home, the kids come home from school, it's just the loveliest family from the Bahamas and I ended up [going out that night] with the daughter to the blackest club ever. You know, I can get myself into any situation. Are you going to sing while you scrub? That's not a bad idea...

Yeah, give them a little jingle or something. That might make it fun. Maybe I can create the new Clorox jingle. [singing] Take the hassle out of cleaning when you pump and clean.

And then there are the royalties, so you'll be good to go for years. The royalties aren't important. The one thing in life I don't need are the royalties. The reason I do these things is because they’re fun, they’re entertaining, and they reach a wide audience. It’s funny, videos now, honest to God, I don’t think I’ve done any network videos. I’ve done now like 32 or 33 Internet ones and they just go wacko.

It's the future right? It's also the future of television. I have a film coming out called Killing Hasselhoff and that’ll probably go to Netflix and I have a TV series called Hoff the Record, it’s all going to be on the Internet and that’s what I want because then you can take your telephone, plug it into any television set around the world, and that's it. I live off my telephone, watching television series on the airplane.

If you could spring clean anything out of your career, what would it be?Well, there’s a lot of things I'd like to spring clean out of my personal life that have to do with women, but out of my career, no. I’ve made some notoriously bad choices that have always turned into hits. My last manager, I think we fired each other over [my decision to do] Piranha 3DD. I thought it was a hysterically bad movie and I said, "I have to be in this, it's so bad." And it turned out to be this huge hit. I got so many kids from Comic-Con going, "Man, I love that movie. I’ve watched it like five times." There's an audience out there for everything.

[Hollywood] wanted me to change the name Hasselhoff, but I kept the name because I took so much crap for it in high school and now Hasselhoff has made me a fortune. It’s just amazing that I kept it and, honest to God, I kept it because I thought, No, my mom and dad gave me this name, I’m not going to change my name, and I think I’ve gained a little payback now.
